Our History

In 1980, Camp Swift was founded as a social action outreach for Jewish teens in the Southwest. The teens wanted to enrich the lives of the less fortunate in our Phoenix community, and one thing that made their endeavor unique – the teens paid to serve as summer camp counselors to Fourth Grade students from the inner cities.

Today, the Camp Swift Foundation is still carrying along that dream. Tons of food, activities from canoeing to overnights, and serious talks about the opportunities life holds for kids who stay in school and remain drug free. Over the years Camp Swift has broadened its scope, now offering a variety of year-round programs. The Jewish teens remain the backbone of the program services.

“All the trees were so close together, it looked like they were holding hands. They were tight, just like us! Thank you . . . ”
